Patton Oswalt ‘Big Fan’ (VIDEO)

Patton Oswalt is ‘Big Fan’ – In Big Fan, comedian Patton Oswalt plays a huge New York Giants fan. The trailer (video) for “Big Fan” is below. The Sundance film was both written and directed by Robert D. Siegel and was released over the weekend.

This indie film first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and follows a hardcore football fan named Paul who can’t afford actual game tickets; instead, he and his best friend Sal drive to the stadium parking lot to listen on the radio and tailgate.

One day, when they see Paul’s favorite player, Quantrell Bishop, they have the ill-conceived notion to tail him, first to what appears to be an inner-city drug den, and then to a strip club, where they finally get up the nerve to approach him, and Paul earns a beatdown for his troubles.

The STUPID Whole Foods Boycott

Whole Foods STUPID Boycott – Whole Foods CEO John Mackey is being treated unfairly for taking a position counter to the Obama administration on Health care.

whole_foods_protestMackey wrote an Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal where he attacked the Obama plan and offered one that he said would work.

The result? a stupid Boycott of Whole Foods called for by lefty progressives because they dissagree.

There seems to be a sense of betrayal: the company was, as one Twitter user describes it, “pretending to be progressive.”

That statement is about as dumb as the boycott itself.

The reason the boycott is so stupid is because it punishes a company that does everything the left thinks a company should do.

Alas, you have the right to boycott Whole Foods because you don’t like Mackey’s opinion. And I have the right to say you’re an idiot for doing so.

Now two unions are joining the campaign to boycott Whole Foods, in order to punish the company for the free-market healthcare beliefs of Mackey.

Ironically, Mackey’s employees have high rates of job satisfaction, and they’re paid better and have better benefits than the unionized employees at other grocery chains. So what’s the beef?

The progressive boycott of Whole Foods will fail, and the end result will be an entire segment of the population that never ever would have encountered organic produce and products, will now be completely familiar with them. This is a huge victory for Whole Foods. Look to see a Whole Foods’ revenue bounce from this.

(VIDEO) Dutch delay girl’s plans to sail

(VIDEO) Dutch delay girl’s plans to sail – A 13-year-old Dutch girl has been placed under state care, stalling her bid to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world, officials say.

A three-judge court in Utrecht set its ruling for Laura Decker for three months, meaning the girl’s parents, who support her plans, temporarily lose the right to make decisions about her, the court told the BBC Friday.

A child psychologist meanwhile will be expected to assess Laura’s capacity to make the trip. Her father’s request for her to miss two years of school was rejected.

She had planned to spend about two years aboard her 26-foot boat, Guppy, in a bid to break the nine-month record set this week by 17-year-old Britisher Mike Perham .

Caroline Vink, a senior adviser on youth protection in the Netherlands, said the case needed to be “looked into.” (c) UPI

Disney World kidnap hoax (VIDEO)

Disney World kidnap hoax (VIDEO) – A Pennsylvania woman who faked a kidnapping and took her daughter to Disneyworld has been sentenced to at least nine months in jail.

Bonnie Sweeten, 38, of Feasterville pleaded guilty Thursday to two misdemeanors, identity theft and false reports, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. She was sentenced to 9-24 months in prison and four years of probation

Bucks County Court Judge Jeffrey Finley called her “a calculating, manipulative, cold-blooded woman.” While state guidelines called for probation, Finley said lawmakers “never contemplated Bonnie Sweeten.”

Sweeten called 911 on May 26 claiming she had been carjacked by two black men and was in the trunk of the kidnappers’ Cadillac. In fact, after placing the call, she left her car in Philadelphia and went to the airport with her 9-year-old daughter, using a co-worker’s driver’s license to buy plane tickets to Florida.

The same day, a check for $285,000 she had written to repay money taken from her ex-husband’s 92-year-old grandfather bounced. She is also under investigation for financial irregularities at the law firm where she worked.

Sweeten’s current husband has begun divorce proceedings. (c) UPI

Drugstores start giving free flu shots Tuesday

Drugstores start giving free flu shots – Seasonal flu shots begin Tuesday without appointment at MinuteClinics and select CVS/pharmacy stores, CVS Caremark officials in Rhode Island say.

CVS Caremark officials say 100,000 free seasonal flu shots will be offered to the unemployed at flu clinics scheduled at One-Stop Career Center locations. Vouchers for free flu shots at CVS/pharmacy or MinuteClinic will also be offered to the unemployed.

A recent CVS Caremark Health IQ study revealed that those who are unemployed and seeking employment are among the least likely to get a flu shot — 34 percent reported getting a flu shot last year, compared to 49 percent of respondents overall.

“CVS Caremark wants to ensure cost and access are not barriers to getting a flu shot this year for one of the most vulnerable populations, the unemployed,” Dr. Troyen A. Brennan, chief medical officer for CVS Caremark, says in a statement. “Our commitment to offer 100,000 free flu shots — costing $3 million — is part of broader efforts to help prevent the spread of seasonal flu.”

Also, beginning Sept. 15, more than 9,000 flu shot clinic events will be held in select CVS/pharmacy stores nationwide.

Consumers can call 1-888-FLU-SHOT or go to cvs.com on the Web to find a list of vaccination locations. (c) UPI

Comedian Sunda Croonquist vs Mother in Law (VIDEO)

Mother-in-law vs Comedian Sunda Croonquist Video – Comedian Sunda Croonquist is being sued by her mother-in-law after making her the punchline of too many jokes.

The mother-in-law is accusing Croonquist of spreading false, defamatory and racist lies with in-law jokes that have become a staple of her routine in nightclubs and on television channels like Comedy Central.

Sunda’s routines are based heavily on the mockery of her family, using cultural references from her half-black, half-Swedish, Catholic-educated background.

As crazy as it may seem, this aspect that has gotten her into trouble is using her Jewish in-laws as fodder for her act, specifically imitating her husband’s mother, reports the Huffington Post.

Veterans Told They Have Fatal Lou Gehrigs Disease

Veterans Told They Have Fatal Lou Gehrigs Disease – A military veteran in south Florida is suing the Veterans Administrations, claiming he contracted HIV AIDS during an endoscopic colonoscopy at a Miami Dept. of Veterans Affairs hospital in May 2008.

According to Military.com, the Army veteran Juan Rivera, 55 years old, claims he contracted HIV from the procedure on or about May 19, 2008. Rivera said he had been tested twice and both times he was positive for the disease.

In December, the VA’s Tennessee Health Care System identified a problem related to the “reprocessing” of endoscopy equipment, which exposed otherwise healthy individuals to cross-contamination.

The VA says the errors were limited to the three states, but a report by the agency’s Inspector General suggested more widespread problems.

Subsequently, all VA facilities were told to review their processes to ensure that they were in compliance with the manufacturer’s instructions, according to the report. Completed in December and January, these reviews also identified significant reprocessing issues at the Augusta VA Medical Center and at the Miami VA Medical Center, both of which required patient notifications and testing.

Those who may have been exposed to cross-contamination were patients that received endoscopic procedures at the Murfreesboro GI Clinic from April 2003 to December 2008; Augusta ENT Clinic from January 2008 to November 2008; and Miami GI Clinic from May 2004 to March 2009.

VA has issued a statement saying they will continue to notify, inform, and treat all potentially impacted Veterans, regardless of risk, cause, or harm.

To complicate matters for the VA, at least 1,200 veterans were mistakenly told by the Veterans Administration that they suffer from a Lou Gehrig’s disease, a fatal neurological disease, among other problems due to a “coding error” in their system.

One of the leaders of a Gulf War veterans group says panicked veterans from Alabama, Florida, Kansas, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming have contacted the group about the error.

A new report from Reuters claims that medical claims by veterans of U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have completely overwhelmed the American government, leading to “shameful failures” in treatment, a class-action lawsuit filed on Monday alleged.

“Because of those failures, hundreds of thousands of men and women who have suffered grievous injuries fighting in the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are being abandoned,” according to the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for Northern California.

More than 1.5 million U.S. service members have been sent to Iraq or Afghanistan since 2001.

Repeated and extended deployments to war zones have driven a rise in post-traumatic stress among troops. But Pentagon and Veterans Affairs Department lack the resources and staff to help service members, according to recent reports.

The filing by two veterans groups sued various officials in the Department of Veterans Affairs and U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and challenged the constitutionality of a 1988 law establishing various VA practices. The two plaintiff organization represent about 12,000 American veterans.

“Unless systemic and drastic measures are instituted immediately, the costs to these veterans, their families, and our nation will be incalculable, including broken families, a new generation of unemployed and homeless veterans, increases in drug abuse and alcoholism, and crushing burdens on the health care delivery system and other social services in our communities,” the suit said.

The suit said the Department of Veterans Affairs faced a backlog of 600,000 claims, with some veterans dying while waiting to settle claims. It also claimed the VA was unable to deal with the growing number of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder cases.

A spokesman for the Veterans Affairs Department was not immediately available.

In April President George W. Bush announced a government plan to improve health care and related services for U.S. troops and returning veterans.

The General Accountability Office reported last year that the Pentagon referred only 22 percent of U.S. troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for mental health evaluations.
