New York homeless get plane tickets to Paris? New York City is among the many cities across the U.S. attempting to get rid of homeless people by offering them a one way tickets by plane, train and bus to locale’s like Paris and Puerto Rico.
The goal is finding them a temporary home, mostly with family members.
Tax payers are be the ones footing the bill, but authorities say it costs a lot less money to buy the one way ticket compared to the thousands it costs to house them each year.
To date, families have been sent to 24 states and 5 continents.

I wish someone would give me a one-way ticket to France Free dam heathcare..

Way to go USA, give our problems (challenges) to other countries; this country’s government should of seen this when it occurred so long ago in our land. We “were” so rich and prosperous a country until we got lazy and out sourced all the hard working jobs and sold off our real estate to foreign countries???? Wake up USA!!!!!

Nice, So now we as Americans are banishing Homeless Americans.
What about all the homeless vets are they going to be banished as well?
Comment by Carl — July 31, 2009 @ 11:54 am
We should banish the greedy Wall Street crooks and profiteers who got us into this mess and use their salaries to help the homeless get on their feet.
Comment by Mike — July 31, 2009 @ 12:00 pm
Well, that helps me make up my mind about whether to keep trying to find another job. I’ll just get rid of everything & become a homeless person. Seems like they’ve got the best deal.

Why don’t we do that to all the Illegal Aliens. and stop welfare. how insane is it that the US is more ashamed of the homeless than they are of the Illegals that have sucked us dry and put California in debt.
Comment by stevie — July 31, 2009 @ 12:48 pm
We Should quit helping other countries and help our own here in the states. Why ship our own to other countries. This really says alot about how we handle problems in this country. Let other countries deal with it. Where are the priorities? Most of the people they are shipping out were born here and should be able to live here. Quit shipping and assembling our products elsewhere and keep it in the states so that people here can make a living. Most of the companies I have worked for in the past have done exactly that and now they are out of business because the quality was not good enough.

GET RID OF ALL THE ILLEGALS AND USE THAT MONEY TO HELP THE HOMELESS!!!!!
Comment by GINNY — July 31, 2009 @ 2:58 pm
I beg to differ with Romira’s “until we got lazy…” comment. It should be “until we got obscenely GREEDY and outsourced all the good paying jobs to third world countries where slave/child labor is still allowed”. And HERE! HERE! to everybody in favor of deporting all the “illegal’ aliens.
Comment by Laura — July 31, 2009 @ 3:25 pm
Being HOMELESS once myself, I think the so called government should take the tax dollars they are using to send the homeless people to other worlds and help them with training and education to get jobs and off the streets instead of shipping them out. It’s the rich snobs of society that want to hoard their monies that want the homeless out.

One thing bothers me : the “ugly truth” > those “unwanted, embarrassing, annoying” homeless, many of them are our “unappreciated, forgotten” WAR VETERANS HEROES !!! Mentally disabled, physically crippled !…….All risking their lives fighting to keep OUR FREEDOM !!! ( would be better dead on the battlefield ?! ).
SHAME ! SHAME ! SHAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just like Guentonomo Bay (However you spell it), We should treat the illegal aliens the same way. Put them in a prison for 5-10 instead of of giving them food stamps, medical and cash. and give these things to TRUE, BORN AND RAISED AMERICANS who happen to fall because of the economy that the rich refuse to help with. I never see any rich people or stars (actors) help this country out they always go out of the USA to adopt, beg for our countrymen to help those who do nothing but make babies. WHY CAN’T THEY HELP THE USA?

I’m sorry..I have to say something.. those of you who are suggesting that this amounts to “banishment’ are a little off base..banishment would entail some kind of REQUIREMENT that they go.. I certainly have never heard of banishment being something a person has a choice in. Beyond that, the article states that these people are being sent to family members in these countries. Therefore the statements regarding “pushing off our responsibilities’ would be a little off base as well. The truth of the matter is, we are spending tax dollars to support illegal immigrants..on the welfare application for the State of Florida it clearly states that the Dept. of Children and Families WILL NOT report any illegal immigrants in a household applying for assistance. Am I the only person who believes it is terribly wrong of our gov’t to use our money to assist those who have no legal right to be here? I am disgusted by the absolute negligence and laziness of gov’t officials who could get these people out of our country, and choose to allow them to stay here, abusing our welfare system instead. Most people are afraid to say anything, particularly in public, for fear of being perceived as racist. For me, the issue is clear. Regardless of race, gender, or any other human condition, illegal immigrants should be arrested and sent back to their country of origin. Many Americans feel that this would be unfair, and actually feel bad for the illegals. I personally feel bad for all the American citizens who lose jobs, or get paid much less for their work as a result of illegals who will do the job for less money. Much of the rhetoric spouted by those who believe these people are somehow entitled to our country is that ‘they are such hard workers” . First, I would like to point out that if they are such hard workers, why not stay in their own country, and work hard to fix what’s wrong. Secondly, I would like to say, a few yrs back, we were just getting started as a family, and were struggling financially..mostly due to the fact that at the time, my husband was working as a brick mason, he has 4 years of school and training behind his skill. In areas where his trade is still valued to some degree, he can expect to be paid upwards of 25 dollars an hour. Here in Florida, where illegal immigrants have driven down the cost of wages in his field, he can expect about 15 dollars an hour. During the time that he was still working in that field, we were forced to rent homes in the lower rent areas of town. For a period of about 2 yrs. I watched the illegal immigrants in those neighborhoods do things you can’t imagine. In one instance, a family killed one of the neighborhood ducks, (Muskogee ducks..which are widely considered inedible) and literally plucked it and hung it on the fence in the yard until they were ready to cook it for dinner. The point of what I’m saying is that many of these illegals come from places where they have literally lived in shacks with dirt floors all their lives. Does anyone really believe that these are people who will easily assimilate into our society? Does anyone want a neighbour who won’t take care of their home, who will leave the yard a mess, with trash and overgrown weeds, and then proceeds to invite over 45 of their closest family members for an evening of loud accordian music and people drinking coronas while lying on the lawn? If you doubt what I say, go spend one weekend in a low income neighborhood in Florida..you will almost certainly have a different opinion when you leave. In conclusion, thanks for reading, I hope you all understand, I am not against any race of people, I am simply against lawbreakers getting a free pass. I am most definitely also against people who refuse to be decent..whatever your race or ethnicity, you should take pride in your home and community. Those who strew trash and debris around their yard, or act in other inconsiderate ways toward their neighbors are a disgrace. Whatever class or race they belong to.

Why doesn’t out government give one-way tickets to the people who are in this country illegally. Then, bring back all the jobs that they have outsourced to China, Mexico, India, etc.; and put Americans back to work.
Our govenment won’t keep out the people who are taking what few jobs there are away, and to compound the problem, they allow our corporations to outsource jobs to other nations so that they can pay their workers slave wages. And then our government has the audacity to bitch about the homeless problem.
Don’t give us airfare, give us some damn jobs!

Lee,
I agree with what you have said. There are many homeless that have had good jobs just for their companies to down size or because they where so greedy that they went under. We do need to do something about the immigration problem. I work for a small chain of grocery stores and they are trying to get the immigrants to come shop. We are in an area that is harvesting time. And we where just notified that if we happen or if they hear us say that they are catering to the immigrants we get 1st a verbal warnning,2nd time a write up, 3rd time get fired. Well there goes freedom of speech. I am so tired of the ones that have’nt put forth get they give you a song and a dance and want you to stand on you,r head to get any kind of assistance if you are an AMERICAN but not be one and they roll out the red carpet. All I can say is bring the jobs back here get the factories to come home. And yea lets all speak english. I am to old to learn a new language.

This is sad. What ever happened to “Give me your tired your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these the homeless and tempest-tost to me.” (The New Colossus). ?????

I agree with some of you, but I cannot do some of the things others can due to a back/spinanal cord injury! And I feel for the people that are being deprived of their rights to be a u.s. citizen so you can support the tallibahn or whatever, and give them the jobs we created just because this is how you want the anarchist society to preveil, you can critisize me and my spelling all you want, but I have already been deprived of my rights and freedoms as a u.s. citizen, and I am as white as they come! And I am not being racist, I am simply stating the facts. If you remember this country don’t even belong to us , it belongs to the god damn Indians! so where do we even start with fairness? This world is a joke! I am just waiting for my real future to begin. I hope it starts soon , because this isn’t it!! I have so much to offer and my input will never be recognized because the rich society is too numb to see what I , or many people have to contribute. Call me what you will, but I call myself an american! thats what I am!! so what? does it matter??

We are having problems feeding our families on bare minimum and NYC finds the money to buy plane tickets. How about giving the homeless a job and finding out why they are homeless in the first place? NYC is dirty and nasty if they made the homeless work for food then maybe it would be a little cleaner. NY makes welfare recipients work for free to earn benefits, what makes the homeless any different.

This REALLY PISSES ME OFF! Some people are homeless by choice, but most because the government is trying to save a buck. Bartending is one of the oldest trades in america. Bartenders make good, if not great money (I supported my family of four for nearly 12 years bartending.)However, I found out today that there is a bar here in Houston that has one of the first electronic bartenders, taking away jobs from at least 2-4 people not only do you not have to pay a machine, but they are also faster because all you have to do is swpe a card and choose your drink! You’re not even required to speak.
