Officials in Abkhazia Friday denied firing on Georgian territory, Gali District Police Chief Lawrence Kogonia said.
He acknowledged that shots were heard on the Georgian side of the Inguri river, but denied Abkhaz servicemen were involved, Interfax reported.
"The situation on our territory is calm, and no incidents have been recorded over the past two days," Kogonia said.
Georgian media reported one civilian was wounded early Friday when a border checkpoint was fired on, the Russian news service reported. (c) UPI
