Tajik Divorce Text Being Banned: 'Marriage is over If u c this'
by Mitch Marconi

Ever thought about divorcing from your un-loved one with a text? Well apparently in Tajikistan, this is something that happens enough that it has to be banned.

In Tajikistan, religious authorities say that divorce by text message will soon be banned. This has been a practice widely used in parts of the Muslim Central Asian nation.

It's called the "triple talaq." It's a Muslim ritual that allows a husband to end a marriage by saying divorce three times. Except men were taking the ritual for granted and they were texting divorce or "talaq" three times.

According to the AP, "Divorce by text message has become common in Tajikistan, particularly among migrant laborers living abroad. Households in impoverished Tajikistan depend heavily on cash remittances and divorce usually dooms wives to deep penury."

Many marriages in Tajikistan are not documented. This makes it difficult, especially with rituals like this, to keep track of who is and isn't married. (c) tPC
