Video: "Berlin Heart" Charles Tillman & Washington
by Mitch Marconi

Berlin heart, Charles Tillman & Washington (PHOTO, VIDEO) - Charles Tillman has been asked to speak to some members of the United States Congress about the Berlin Heart.

The Berlin heart is a small and compact artificial heart device. It was just one year ago, this revolutionary device kept his infant daughter, Tiana, alive while she awaited a heart transplant that would save her life.

The Berlin heart can take over the pumping action of the heart and pump blood directly to the rest of the body. It is planted outside the heart and only the tubes are attached to the inside of the heart. The system consists of a pneumatic compressor and is run by a computerized program.

Tillman is in Washington today, where he will speak at a luncheon in a congressional meeting room at the U.S. Capitol Visitor's Center. The presentation will outline medical technologies that are helping to bring heath care costs down and improve the overall quality of life for patients with cardiovascular disease.

The event is being hosted by the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), the American College of Cardiology and Mended Hearts, a support group that assists heart-disease patients and their families.

Tillman is among three who are expected to speak. See a photo of Tillman and daughter here. A video on the device is below.
