Transgender Golfer Lana Lawless Sues LPGA 'Female At Birth' Policy
by Tashi Singh

Transgender golfer sues LPGA! Saying its 'female at birth' policy violates a California civil rights law, golfer Lana Lawless is suing the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) to stop them from running competitions until they have changed their policy to admit transgender players.

In a statement, Lawless, a 57-year-old former police officer who underwent a sex change operation to become a female from a male, said that "in all respects, legally, and physically female.

"The state of California recognizes me as such and the LPGA should not be permitted to come into California and blatantly violate my rights. I just want to have the same opportunity to play professional golf as any other woman."

Lawless does not seem concerned that strength retained from her former  physique as a male might give her an unfair advantage. She is a former male SWAT team member, who once admittedly weighed in at 245 pounds.

She filed her federal lawsuit in San Francisco late Tuesday.

Lawless included in her suit three LPGA sponsors and the Long Drivers of America, which holds the annual women's long-drive golf championship, reports FOX Sports. She won the same competition last year before the gender rules were changed this year.
