The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office alleges the bus was running but empty at a Syracuse transportation center when Andrew Hickey, 31, of Peekskill, climbed into the driver's seat and motored away, WSYR-TV, Syracuse, reported Tuesday.
Investigators said Hickey was in Watertown on the way to visit a friend about 2 hours later when Greyhound used technology installed on all of its vehicles to stop the bus and tracked it down with GPS.
Hickey, who deputies said has a commercial driver's license, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. (c) UPI
