Gabrielle Giffords, Gwyneth Paltrow cousin, resigns from Congress and to be homored by EMILY's List. EMILY's List, a group that backs female Democrats who support abortion rights, will honor former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords at its annual fundraiser in Washington.

Giffords, who is related to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, resigned from the House in January one year after being wounded in a Tucson shooting spree, will be awarded the organization's "We are Emily" award, The Hill reported Friday.

"Since the tragic events in Tucson, Gabby has continued to inspire us all with her determination and her commitment," EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock said in a statement. "Throughout the country, Gabby is hailed as a symbol of bravery, of hard work, and of decency and civic leadership."

EMILY's List supported all three of Giffords' House campaigns, The Hill said.
