Man Arrested In Mass. Factory Rampage
by Staff

An apparent illegal immigrant injured his girlfriend and another woman during a knife-wielding rampage in a Massachusetts factory, authorities say.

Lt. Michael Goldman of the Leominster police said Aaron Noe Camey Valenzuela, 23, apparently an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, allegedly entered the United Solutions plastics factory Sunday morning and slashed the throat of his girlfriend, Elba Monges, at her work station, The Boston Globe reported.

Goldman said the motive appeared to be anger over an imminent relationship breakup.

Also injured in the rampage was Mary Machado, 45, of Leominster, whom Goldman said went to help Monges.

Police allege that Valenzuela pulled a pocket knife, grabbed Monges from behind and slashed her throat, then lashed out at Machado, slicing her cheek. The suspect allegedly slit his own wrists, neck and abdomen after a supervisor pulled him out of the factory, Goldman said.

The suspect allegedly then ran off and was tracked by state police dogs and a helicopter to a city-owned apple orchard, where he surrendered at about 11 a.m., the Globe reported.

The newspaper said Monges was listed in stable condition after surgery at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center, while Machado was treated and released. (c) UPI
