Tatum O'Neal Thanks Police For Drug Intervention
by Staff

Actress Tatum O'Neal credits her June (08) arrest on drug possession charges for scaring her sober.

The Oscar winner fears she'd be using cocaine again and spiralling downwards had it not been for the police intervention following an alleged drug buy.

In an exclusive Oprah Winfrey interview, which will air in the U.S. on Friday (12Sep08), O'Neal admits she came within minutes of relapsing after almost a year of sober living - and can't thank the arresting police officers enough for inadvertently stopping her.

She explains, "I got close to relapsing. It was close enough. Too close for comfort.

"I was almost at my year and I chose not to start over."

O'Neal pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct charges and agreed to undergo counselling at a drug-treatment program and pay a small fine. The charges will be dropped if she continues to impress the authorities. (c) WENN
