Thomas Sowell - was born in North Carolina and grew up in Harlem. He joined the Marine Corps as a photographer during the Korean War. In 1948, he graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University while working part-time as a photographer, studying the science that would become his passion and profession: economics. He went on to receive his master's in economics from Columbia University (1959), and a doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago (1968). In 1965, he began the first of many professorships at Cornell University, and included such fine institutions as Rutgers, Amherst, Brandeis, and the University of California at Los Angeles. Though Sowell has been a regular contributor to newspapers since the late '70s, he did not begin his career as a newspaper columnist until 1984. He has published a large volume of writings, and his books (28), articles and essays cover a wide range of topics. From classic economic theory, to judicial activism, to civil rights, to choosing the right college, much of his writing is considered groundbreaking work that will outlive the great majority of serious writers today. Currently, Sowell is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution in Stanford, Calif.

Patrick J. Buchanan - was born in Washington, educated at Catholic and Jesuit schools, and received his master's degree in journalism from Columbia University in 1962. At 23, he became the youngest editorial writer on a major newspaper in America, The St. Louis Globe-Democrat. In 1966, Buchanan became the first full-time staff member in the legendary comeback of Richard Nixon. He traveled with the future president as confidante and assistant in the campaigns of 1966 and 1968. From 1985 to 1987, he served in Ronald Reagan's White House as director of communications. Buchanan became a columnist and the founding father of three of the most recognizable talk shows in TV history: "The McLaughlin Group," "Capital Gang" and "Crossfire." He has written six books, including the New York Times best-seller "A Republic Not an Empire", and the Washington Post best-seller "Right From The Beginning" about growing up in the nation's capital. His newest book, "Death Of The West" will be out in January 2006.

A central figure in world events during the past several years, retired Marine Lt. Col. Oliver L. North has provoked great controversy while gaining the respect of the vast majority of Americans. He is best known for the role he played in carrying out President Reagan's orders to support freedom and democracy in Central America.
