Hurricane Ike Death Toll Raised To 31
by Staff

The discovery of two unidentified bodies in Galveston County, Texas, has raised the death toll from Hurricane Ike to at least 31, officials said Monday.

The decomposed bodies were believed to be those of a white male and a white female, The Houston Chronicle reported.

The male body was found Saturday washed up on a rocky shoreline by a fisherman two miles west of an area known as Severs Cut. The female body was discovered the same day by all-terrain vehicle riders on the northwest side of Pelican Island, the newspaper said.

About 400 people in Texas and Louisiana are still listed as missing in the wake of the Sept. 13 hurricane, officials say. (c) UPI
