BRUSSELS, May 19, 2006 (UPI) -- A European Union report on human rights faults Britain on such issues as curbing human trafficking, protecting migrant workers and child soldiers.
The report calls on Britain to sign key international conventions before lecturing other nations on their failings, Britain's Independent reports.
The British government is yet to implement the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, the report said.
Britain has signed the United Nations optional protocol to the convention on the involvement of children in armed conflict. But reportedly it has a key reservation on the recruitment of soldiers from the age of 16, although it maintains no one below 18 will be sent into battle.
A British official was quoted as saying the country takes human rights very seriously.
