by Toshiba Reynolds

Pennsylvania Police say a shoplifting suspect that was found hiding in a trash container [VIDEO] is in custody on charges including briefly stealing a police car.

Springettsbury Township police say the bizarre chain of events started shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.
Marlo Harvard Jr., 21, met up with responding officers as he exited store shortly before 1 p.m. As the officers chased him on foot, Harvard jumped into an empty running cruiser in the 2600 block of Industrial Highway and took off, township police said.

Police say Harvard abandoned the cruiser only a few blocks near a bank and ran into the Mexitaly Restaurant. A customer at the restaurant said he initially came into the restaurant and hid in a bathroom. Then he went out the back door and jumped into a garbage bin, closing the lid over his head.

Harvard told the officers that he enjoyed "hanging out in trash bins."

Harvard is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft by unlawful taking, retail theft, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, and summary traffic offenses.
