One Half Of The 'God Squad' [VIDEO] Dies; Tom Hartman Dead At 69

Msgr. Tom Hartman, one half of the 'God Squad [VIDEO],' dies. Monsignor Tom Hartman helped raise millions in his fight to find a cure for Parkinson's Disease.

Msgr. Thomas J. Hartman, who gained national fame as half of the priest and rabbi duo bringing a message of interfaith tolerance to millions, died late Tuesday night, he was 69.
Hartman died just after 11:30 p.m. at TownHouse Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Uniondale, according to his sister.

For 16 years, Monsignor Tom fought hard against Parkinson's disease and raised millions in his fight to find a cure.

He also continued to teach religious tolerance with Rabbi Rabbi Marc Gellman as the priest half of The God Squad, and counseled, married and blessed people.

Hartman and Gellman also wrote a syndicated column called The God Squad, distributed through Tribune Media Services. In 2003, Hartman announced to readers that he had suffered from Parkinson's Disease for four years but tried to keep it secret as long as he could. Gellman continued to write the column himself.
