Germany Marks Nazi Book Burnings
by Staff

Cities across Germany have held ceremonies to observe the anniversary of the Nazi Party's book burning campaign, Deutsche Welle said Sunday.

The German broadcaster said Saturday's ceremonies in Berlin and elsewhere marked the 75th anniversary of the book burnings on May 10, 1933.

This weekend's events were organized by Germany's Humboldt University, the Cervantes Institute in Spain and the Berlin Social Democratic Party.

In Berlin, organizers situated one event in the same capital square where Nazi Party head Adolf Hitler conducted book burnings that destroyed copies of works by Sigmund Freud, Berthold Brecht, Franz Kafka and other writers. (c) UPI
