Hilary Duff will reportedly be playing the part of Carol Anne Freeling, a role first played by late child star, Heather O'Rouke, according to a report in Femalefirst.
Heather O'Rourke's famous line in the movie , "they're here" was an instant hit with cinema-goers and sent chills up people's spines.
Actor Craig T Nelson, who plays the role of Stephen Freeling, Carol Anne's father in the movie, is said to have already signed up for the remake.
The movie will be the fourth in the series.
Duff will Rock The New Year
For the 34th consecutive year, "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" will usher America into the New Year, and singer/actress Hilary Duff has is set to preside over the Hollywood party segments of the special, airing Saturday, Dec. 31, on ABC.
Film, TV and pop music star Hilary Duff has had another banner year. She's shot three movies, opened Hilary Duff World' on AOL, released a best-of album with three new tracks and performed a sold-out concert tour -- all in the span of one year. Oh, and she celebrated her 18th birthday as well.
Duff, star of such films as Cheaper By The Dozen, will host the West Coast portion of the special and perform three songs. The Most Wanted singer takes over the gig that was filled last year by Ashlee Simpson.
Duff will also introduce some of today's hottest musical artists. Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest will report "live" on the festivities in New York, including the final minutes of the year 2005 with the traditional Times Square ball drop and countdown to midnight.
Even with her nonstop schedule, Duff still makes time to give back to those who are less fortunate; in addition to being a charter member of the Kids with a Cause Foundation, She has donated $250,000 to Hurricane Katrina Relief, according to published reports.
Next up, she reprises her starring role in Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and co-stars in Material Girls with her sister, Haylie.
Dick Clark returns to the festivities after missing last year's show because he was recovering from a stroke. Clark is one of the most recognized and popular personalities in entertainment history.
