Paris Hilton's Pet Ownership Skills Unfit For A Dog
by Jack Ryan
Dec 14, 2005

It's sure been a tough year for Paris Hilton: her TV show and several relationships went on hiatus. Now, she's been named "worst celebrity dog owner."

The hotel heiress and socialite made her pet Chihuahua Tinkerbell, the cynosure of all eyes and then famously substituted him for a ferret. Now, The New York Dog and Hollywood Dog Magazine comes to Tinkerbell's aid.

Voters put the heiress in the doghouse as a result of how Paris treated her pet Chihuahua, Tinkerbell, which she carried all over like a Gucci bag.

The voting took place over a three-month period among visitors to the Web sites thenydog.com and thehollywooddog.com. Results were released Friday.

"Our readers felt Ms. Hilton's dog-parenting skills left a lot to be desired," Leslie Padgett, editor of the two publications, was quoted by Zap2it, as saying.

"First she loses Tinkerbell, then she ditches her for a cuter dog, then replaces that dog with a ferret, then a Kinkajou monkey and then, I gather, a goat. Recently Tinkerbell was spotted back in Paris' arms. But how long will she be in favor this time?" she added.

On the other side, the title of "Best Dog Owner Of 2005" was granted to teenage soul singer, Joss Stone, who has a poodle which she treats like a king and is also a volunteer for the North Shore Animal League America.

Padgett said of Stone: "Joss is a huge advocate for shelter dogs and it's not just talk."

Stone narrowly edged out Ashley Olsen, who adopted a mixed-breed from the Animal Haven Shelter in New York.

Tori Spelling, a pug owner who has "tirelessly campaigned'' for the Much Love Animal Rescue in Los Angeles, placed third.
