EDINBURGH, Scotland - May 23, 2006 (UPI) -- Rocker Pete Doherty allegedly mistook an Edinburgh, Scotland, shopkeeper for a dealer and repeatedly insisted the man help him "score" drugs, a report says.
Shaz Shafiq, 28, said he was loading goods from his car into his family's store Monday morning in Edinburgh when he saw the Babyshambles frontman walking past the shop, smoking a joint, The Scotsman reported.
Shafiq said he exchanged pleasantries with the rock star who then jumped into the back seat of his car and repeatedly asked if he had "scored."
"I told him he had the wrong guy but he kept asking me what the hardest stuff I could get him was," Shafiq said. "It was obvious all he wanted was to find drugs."
After finally convincing him he did not have or sell drugs, Shafiq said he agreed to give Doherty a ride to Nicolson Square, where he dropped him off and did not see him again.
Doherty was an hour late to the band's concert at Edinburgh's Corn Exchange Sunday night and broke Scottish law by smoking on stage, the Scotsman said.
Doherty is supposed to be undergoing 18 months of drug rehab as part a sentence handed down in London after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges of drug possession.
