LONDON, Jan. 6, 2006 (UPI) -- The first round of voting for the British Academy Film Awards had "Memoirs of a Geisha" in the pole position Friday with 15 nominations.
"Brokeback Mountain," "The Constant Gardener" and "Good Night, and Good Luck" garnered 13 nominations each while "King Kong," "Pride and Prejudice" and "Batman Begins" each got 12, Daily Variety reported. Only "Batman Begins" is not in contention for a best film nomination.
"Capote," "Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "Crash" garnered 11 nods each and "Mrs. Henderson Presents" received 10.
"A History of Violence," "March of the Penguins," "Syriana" and "Walk the Line" also made it into the top 15 contending for a best film nod.
A second round of voting, which ends next Thursday, will whittle the lists of 15 to the final five nominees in each category.
