Nick Jonas Diabetes (Photos and Video) dog tag. Teen pop star Nick Jonas could have slipped into a coma and died if his diabetes diagnosis was delayed by just two days.

Doctors discovered the Jonas Brothers star suffered from the metabolic disease in 2005 when he was just 13 years old and immediately put him on drugs to combat the illness’ side effects.

And the star has now revealed that if medics had waited any longer to begin treatment, he could have fallen into a life-threatening coma.

He says, “When I was diagnosed, if we had waited two days, I could’ve been in a coma. A week later, and I could’ve died, so I’m very thankful that I’ve lived to see all of this.”

Jonas admits diabetes is hard to live with, but insists his health issues have given him a better outlook on life.

He adds, “I’d be lying if I told you that there weren’t days that I wasn’t frustrated with being a diabetic. It’s definitely not something you ask for. There are moments when I think life would be a lot easier without it. But, then again, it’s part of my DNA at this point, and it’s given me an outlook on life that I think is very rare.”

In 2008, Nick Jonas and Bayer Diabetes Care announced they would be offering limited edition "dog tags" as a symbol of support for people with diabetes. The dog tags featured a lyric from "A Little Bit Longer," the song Nick wrote about his diabetes.

The limited edition dog tags were available through www.NicksSimpleWins.com for a donation of $5. But you will have to get them from eBay now.

The partnership between Bayer and Nick Jonas in 2008 aimed to provide young people and their families with the motivation and support they need to help simplify life with diabetes.
