The producers for the forecasted summer blockbuster 'Superman Returns,' which hasn't even hit theatres yet, are reportedly planning another project: a feature movie based on the '70s TV series 'Kung Fu.'
The martial arts saga ran from 1972 to 1975 and starred David Carradine as Shaolin monk Kwai Chang Caine. The series chronicles the travels of Caine, who fled China to America after committing a murder, as he searched for his long lost sibling across 19th century America.
The new treatment will reportedly be set mainly in China and centers on Caine's training to become a Buddhist martial arts master and the subsequent events that lead to his departure.
Ed Spielman, the original show's creator, and one of his writing partners, Howard Friedlander, are in the process of writing the screenplay. Casting has yet to be announced.
"We're not looking at this as 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', with people flying all around," said Scott Mednick, the production company's distribution president, according to reports. "The actual priests of the Shaolin Temple can do things that are amazing without wire work or special effects."
