Is it a Cold or Enterovirus D68? Two Ways You Can Tell the Difference [VIDEO], EV-D68, comes from a family of diseases called enterovirus. Enteroviruses are fairly common and cause cold-like symptoms. EV-D68, though, has puzzled doctors with its severity and higher-than-normal hospitalizations of those who have contracted it.

There is no vaccine for EV-D68, but health officials say most cases will only result in a runny nose and fever.

What are you supposed to do? Get a flu shot as soon as possible as the best method of prevention. Also, know what you're looking for. These are some of the symptoms of EV-D68:

Runny Nose
Muscle/body aches

Okay, so far that sounds like most bugs. So, is there one thing that will tip you off as to whether it's EV-D68? There are, in fact, two:

Difficulty breathing

Though there's no cure, just as there isn't one for the common cold, doctors advise you to treat the symptoms with over-the-counter medications. However, if you see wheezing and deep coughing start to develop, it's time to head to the hospital.
