This August, the world lost a lot of famous people. Here are some of the most notable deaths in August, 2011.

Jani Lane - Former 'Warrant' singer, 47, has been found dead in a Los Angeles hotel room.

David Honeyboy Edwards - Mississippi Delta blues singer died at his home in Chicago, his manager Michael Frank said. Edwards was 96.

Sybil Jason - Former child star lost her battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Her film credits include 1935's The Singing Kid, in which she performed alongside Al Jolson, and Little Big Shot.

James 'Glen' Croker - The Hackberry Ramblers front man has died at the age of 77.

Michael Showers - The TV actor has been found dead in the Mississippi River, according to New Orleans officials. He had a recurring role in the HBO drama Treme. He also appeared in Breaking Bad and The Vampire Diaries, and had film credits in Traffic and The Tree of Life.

Ross Barbour - The drummer of the Grammy Award-winning group the Four Freshmen, who scored hits with songs like Graduation Day, It Happened Once Before and Mood Indigo died at the age of 82.
 
Frank Potenza - Beloved U.S. TV personality has died at the age of 77. Potenza was a regular fixture on his nephew Jimmy Kimmel's late night TV chat show.

John Howard Davies - The director producer has died at the age of 72. Davies first appeared onscreen as orphan Oliver Twist in David Lean's 1948 adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel.

Jerry Leiber - The songwriting legend has died at the age of 78. Creator of Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock and King Creole by Elvis Presley.

Rhian Stoute - New York rapper, 33, was shot to death and found in a SUV in Paramus.

Russell Armstrong - 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' star Russell Armstrong, 41, has been found dead. He was found hanged. It is believed to be suicide.

Rick Rypien - Winnipeg Jets Center, was found dead in his home in Alberta, Canada. The death of Rypien, 27, was sudden and non-suspicious.
