Banned! National Anthem Too "Violent" For Indiana College
by Jack Ryan

Indiana's Goshen College has banned the song "The Star Spangled Banner" at all sporting events. The Mennonite school's president has banned the Anthem because they consider the words to be too violent.

The college in 2010 banned some of the words last year. A year later, it is not enough. President Jim Brenneman has switched the Anthem to "America The Beautiful".

He said, "I am committed to retaining the best of what it means to be a Mennonite college, while opening the doors wider to all who share our core values. And I invite others to join us at Goshen College as we make peace in all of its forms, even with the national anthem."

Is it right for a college to ban a song that stands for how this country won it's freedom?

What is the song really saying? Can you see by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming. That the banner lasted through the night. The meaning of the song has always been that even in the heat of battle, even if the worst - when you go to bed at night and you think America is not going to stand, the battle goes on. And when the dawn comes again, that banner is yet waving. But here's the key phrase: The land of the free... and the home of the brave.

Do you think it's disrespectful of Goshen College?
