Little House On The Prairie star Melissa Gilbert has filed for divorce from her husband of 16 years, five months after trying to salvage her marriage.

The former child actress separated from actor Bruce Boxleitner in March, but days later, took to her Facebook.com page to tell fans the couple were trying to work things out.

However, the pair has failed to repair its relationship and Gilbert is going ahead with divorce proceedings.

According to Los Angeles Country Superior Court documents, the actress filed papers on Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences.

She has asked for joint custody of the couple's son Michael.

The magazine reports Gilbert still listed her relationship status on social networking site Facebook.com as "married" on 10 March and wrote on her profile, "My marriage is a miracle. I am sober."

The stars are parents to 15-year-old son Michael, in addition to three kids from previous relationships.

Another celebrity couple is reportedly in trouble. However the couple have outwardly dismissed the notion that they are seperating, reports from InTouch say otherwise.

 Will Smith has dismissed reports suggesting he and wife Jada Pinkett Smith are on the verge of splitting up, insisting their marriage is "intact".

U.S. publication In Touch Weekly first reported the couple had separated after 13 years of marriage on Tuesday morning but representatives for the Smiths and Will's son Trey have since addressed the story, insisting the pair is still together.

Trey took to Twitter.com to play down the story, writing, "Will and Jada getting a DIVORCE ..NOT TRUE AT ALL!!"

And Smith himself has now issued a statement through his rep.

He writes, "Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact." (c) WENN
