Hurricane Irene Ocean City, MD Evacuation: 150k People

Category 3 Hurricane Irene is for America. Residents of Ocean City, Maryland have been ordered to evacuate. Mayor Rick Meehan has signed a proclamation declaring a local State of Emergency.

Thousands of residents are now evacuating the beachfront community. Anyone other than emergency personnel has been ordered to leave Ocean City.

There is approximately 125,000 to 150,000 people in Ocean City.

All alcohol businesses are to close by midnight tonight. No vehicles except emergency ones and those approved by the mayor, city manager or emergency services director will be permitted entry into Ocean City.

Here was the released statement:

"Ocean City Municipal Transportation System is providing transportation for special needs individuals. For special needs transportation, please call Ocean City Transportation at 410-723-1606. International student workforce evacuation continues and will be completed by tomorrow morning. The Ocean City Government Cable Access Channel 4, the Ocean City website Ocmdemergency.com, recorded emergency management line, 410-723-6666 and Ocean City advisory radio station 1670 AM will remain operational for further advisories."

Weather.com have labeled the threat level from North Carolina to southern New England "EXTREME." This hurricane has the potential to produce flooding rains, high winds, downed trees (on houses, cars, power lines) and widespread power outages. Significant impacts along the immediate coast include high waves, surge and beach erosion.

If you are living in Ocean City you must evacuate. The country is praying for the safety of all those who are affected by this storm. (c) tPC
