Back in October of 2007, reports falsely said that Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres had split.

They could not have been more wrong. Ellen made the announcement during the filming of her TV show on (15.05.08), where she was given a standing ovation by the audience.

Making this possible was a California Supreme Court ruling last week that struck down the ban against gay marriage.

Ellen told the Advocate: "I'm thrilled that the California supreme court overturned the ban on gay marriage. I can’t wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday we’ll look back on this, and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote."

Ellen has previously spoken about her love for Portia, saying the blonde beauty completes her.

She said: "I could say the same thing I've said in every relationship, 'I'm happy.' But there's happiness and there's love, and then there's completion.

"It doesn't take away from any of the relationships that I've had, because I've had amazing relationships. But I feel like I found my perfect fit."
