One year and a custody battle after disastrously lip-syching her then-big-fat-ass into the Hall of Shame, platinum fox Britney Spears returned to open the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.

The LA Times reported "Spears did little more than read a cue card at a mile a minute, and walk around with a beauty pageant smile."

In what really must have pissed 'em off at the LA Times, Brit Brit was given three awards, including the most important one, the music video of the year.

Glad to see MTV is totally for sale, as the entire awards show was a platform designed and used to promote Britney, more Britney, and then even more Britney.

The most dull show had some spectacular performances by Kanye West, Pink, and Kid Rock with Lil' Wayne, but the night belonged to Britney, who looked fantastic in her hot new dress. You can catch all the pics of Britney, including ones of her showing off her tone legs, here.
