Wikileaks, mirrors all down - Yesterday, news broke that Sarah Palin's personal email account on Yahoo! had been hacked, emails revealed, and even some personal photos showed up on the web.

A group of hackers known as 'Anonymous' hacked Palin's private email account and gave what they found to Wikileaks.org.

Wikileaks had been posting that the fact that Sarah Palin was doing business from her private account was improper of a Governor, and she used private email to shield government business from public scrutiny.

The main site (wikileaks.org) as well as all it's mirrors all seem to be down which is surprising because, according to the Wikipedia page for Wikileaks,

Wikileaks describes itself as "an uncensorable system for untraceable mass document leaking". Wikileaks is hosted by PRQ, a Sweden-based company providing "highly secure, no-questions-asked hosting services". PRQ is said to have "almost no information about its clientele and maintains few if any of its own logs". PRQ is owned by Gottfrid Svartholm and Fredrik Neij who, through their involvement in The Pirate Bay, have significant experience in withstanding legal challenges from authorities. Being hosted by PRQ makes it difficult to take Wikileaks offline. Furthermore, "Wikileaks maintains its own servers at undisclosed locations, keeps no logs and uses military-grade encryption to protect sources and other confidential information." An unidentified individual working for Wikileaks is quoted as saying "Wikileaks certainly trusts no hosting provider". Such arrangements have been called "bulletproof hosting", historically used by criminal online gangs.

And yet here we are with Wikileaks gone. Yet, it is completely warranted. The posting of this woman's private email is not only disgusting, it was stupid.

Gawker.com posted the family photos and e-mail exchanges the Alaska governor had with colleagues. Gawker claims the screenshots of the e-mails "were saved before the account went dark, along with the contact list. It's newsworthy and we will not be taking it down!"

McCain campaign manager Rick Davis issued the following statement concerning reports about Gov. Palin's e-mail: "This is a shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We will have no further comment."
