Tony Alamo, real name 'Bernie LaZar Hoffman', was raided over the weekend by over 100 federal agents as part of a two-year investigation over allegations of sexual abuse of children, child pornography, underage and polygamy marriages. He faced accusations of separating parents from their children as punishment for defying God and his ministry apparently beat children for misbehaving and acting inappropriately.
Alamo defended himself on the child porn issues saying "Why would I be into that? I'm legally blind, and I wouldn't have been able to look at it."
The investigation of Alamo's cult like church has been investigated and attacked by the United State's government. Several ex-members of the church claimed to have witnessed child abuse, unlawful sexual behaviors, physical abuses of members of the church. Alamo was accused of making children skip school to work on his famed celebrity clothing.
According to Wikipedia: "American preacher, singer, entrepreneur, and religious evangelist. He and his then-wife Susan are best known as the founders of a radical fundamentalist organization currently known as Tony Alamo Christian Ministries. The organization is based in and around Fouke and Alma, Arkansas, United States, and has been referred to as a cult."
Alamo said that when his wife died in 1982, he believed she would be a witness that was foretold in the Book of Revelation in the Christian Bible. Alamo placed his wife's body in a crystal crypt on his dining room table, and made his followers pray for her resurrection every day. It took almost twenty years for law enforcement to get their hands on Alamo's wife when church members gave it up in 1998.
Wikipedia also notes: "On September 20, 2008, federal and state investigative agents raided the Arkansas headquarters of the ministry as part of a child pornography investigation.[13][14] This investigation involved allegations of physical abuse, sexual abuse and allegations of polygamy and underage marriage. According to Terry Purvis, mayor of Fouke, Arkansas, his office has received complaints from former ministry members about allegations of child abuse, sexual abuse and polygamy since the ministry established itself in the area. In turn, Purvis turned over information about the allegations to the FBI.[15] Alamo denied the child abuse allegations."
Amongst the many things Tony Alamo was accused of, one of them being how he funneled millions of tax free dollars through a Music Row church and ran a fancy high-end clothing store on Broadway. (c) tPC
