Britney Spears' mother wants to reunite the singer with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, finally joining along with her own ex-husband to encourage them to reconcile.
Lynne Spears, who describes her former son-in-law as "kind hearted" and "down to earth" in her new book, is working hard to convince Britney and Kevin to give their relationship another chance for the sake of their two children.
The estranged couple spent time together as their sons Jayden James and Sean Preston celebrated their birthdays earlier this month, and Kevin is said to have told Britney he still has feelings for her.
A source said: "Kevin has apologised to Britney for his failings as a husband and said he wanted a fresh start.
He confessed she is the love of his life, his soulmate and was sorry things went so wrong between them."
Britney, 26, is thrilled by 30-year-old Kevin's apology and feels she is finally getting her personal and private life back on track.
The source added to the National Enquirer magazine: "Not only is her career going well but it looks like her love life might be too.
"Britney never got over Kevin and she hopes this is the first step towards them reconciling. She knows a lot has happened but at least she knows he loves her."
Britney and Kevin married in 2004, but their marriage ended just two years later.
There are rumors the two have also entered couple's counseling, and Federline has taken an active role in Britney's social life recently, as news of a warning to Paris Hilton surfaced.
The dancer and rapper reportedly told hotel heiress Hilton to leave the 'Gimme More' singer alone because she does not need any bad influences in her life.
Kevin reportedly told the socialite at the Las Vegas launch of restaurant and club Lavo he does not want Britney - who recently scooped three gongs at the MTV Video Music Awards - to return to her troubled lifestyle for the sake of his children Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two.
A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "It was quite a chilling warning. She was quite friendly and asked how Britney and the kids are but she won't be asking again."
The National Enquirer reports: "Part of their therapy involves going on formal dates and Britney is so excited.
"She's never stopped loving Kevin or hoping they'd get back together.
"Kevin still loves Britney too and if all goes well after six months of counseling they'll move back in together with the boys."
Spears also recently sold her home to buy another one closer to Kevin and their sons, of whom he has full custody.
