TheDirty is in under fire from "Real Housewives of Orange County" star Gretchen Rossi and the Costa Mesa County police after posting topless photos of Gretchen in a car, among some other inappropriate pictures.

One photo is of her topless, while others show her breasts being grabbed by men.

Gretchen is claiming the photos were stolen from her and posted without her permission.

Now the Costa Mesa County Police Department has sent TheDirty.com lawyers a letter, which has prompted the website to investigate the origin of the revealing pics.

TMZ.com obtained a letter the CMPD fired over to TheDirty's lawyers. Read the docs here. 

This is simply round two in Rossi's ongoing battle with the website. Her lawyers fired off a cease and desist letter to the TheDirty.com, demanding the removal of a photo that was posted online of Rossi on the toilet.

Oh - and the topless photos are still up on the website!
