A former cashier named Trevor Keezor was fired from The Home Depot for wearing a button on his apron that said "One nation under God, indivisible" with the American flag on it. According to reports, the company is citing it as religious reference. They claimed that expressing personal beliefs is not allowed.
Keezor wore the button for a whole year. Despite it being taken directly from the Pledge of Allegiance, it was too much for the company. The company released a statement saying:
"This associate chose to wear a button that expressed his religious beliefs. The issue is not whether or not we agree with the message on the button. That's not our place to say, which is exactly why we have a blanket policy, which is long-standing and well-communicated to our associates, that only company-provided pins and badges can be worn on our aprons."
Keezor was never told he had to remove the button for a whole year, until one month he started bringing the Bible to read during his lunch break at the store according to him. That's when he said that The Home Depot management had it out with him and told him to remove it.
Keezor was offered a company-approved pin that said "United We Stand" but Keezor refused. Keezor said he was working at The Home Depot to pay for college. Keezor said he wore the button to support his country and his 27-year-old brother who is in the National Guard on his second tour of duty in Iraq.
A lawsuit has been filed by Keezor's lawyer Kara Skorupa to sue the company. (c) tPC
