A couple of homeruns and a brilliant pitching performance evened the World Series for the New York Yankees with a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 Thursday.

Burnett allowed just four hits and gave up two walks while striking out nine. Just the third pitcher in Yankees history to throw seven-plus innings, with nine or more strikeouts, four or less hits and one or less runs in a World Series, joining Orlando Hernandez and Roger Clemens who did it twice.
Mariano Rivera finished the game for Burnett, blanking Philadelphia in the eighth and the ninth, allowing just two hits and a walk.
Raul Ibanez recorded the only run for the Phillies when he doubled and scored in the second.
Pedro Martinez was good, just not good enough as he went six-plus innings for Philadelphia, was charged with all three runs, two of them earned, walked two and struck out eight.
Martinez only trouble came in the seventh when he gave up back-to-back singles to start the frame. Chan Ho Park relieved Martinez and surrendered an RBI-single to Jorge Posada before he got Derek Jeter to foul out on a bunt try. Scott Eyre ended the threat when he got Johnny Damon to line into a double play.
The series now moves south along I-95 to Philadelphia where Cole Hamels will face A.J. Pettitte in Game 3. Hamels has gone 1-1 in this three starts this postseason but lasted just four and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits, in his last outing against the Dodgers. Pettitte is 2-0 in three starts with a 2.84 ERA and 15 strikeouts.
