This is tragic. A horrific crash occurred just about 50 miles off the San Diego County coast on Thursday. The crash happened between a Coast Guard plane and a Marine Corps helicopter around 7:10 p.m.
According to the AP, "A pilot reported seeing a fireball near where the aircraft collided, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said, and the Coast Guard informed the FAA that debris from a C-130 had been spotted. The Coast Guard plane that crashed was a C-130."
Coast Guard crew members had special survival gear that could allow them to survive in the ocean for hours if needed be. U.S. officials are desperately searching for survivors. There were 7 people aboard the plane and 2 on the helicopter.
Apparently the Marine Corps helicopter was on a training mission when it collided with the plane. It has been identified that the members of the helicopter where part of the Marine Aircraft Group 39 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. They were headquartered in Miramar. (c) tPC
