The Kansas City Chiefs thought their season might be turning around when they defeated the Washington Redskins 14-6, but a 37-7 slashing by the San Diego Chargers at home has them headed into their off week still headed in the wrong direction.
The Good:
Two weeks ago, the Chiefs went toe-to-toe with the Dallas Cowboys and came up just short in overtime, then followed that with a win in the nation's capitol and some thought things might be looking up in Kansas City.

It was the fourth time this season the Redskins had lost a game to a previously winless team and it kept the Chiefs from falling to 0-6 for the first time in franchise history.
The Bad:
Instead of following up their first win with another over a division rival that has won the AFC West three years in a row, the Chiefs laid an egg at home, allowing Phillip Rivers to throw three touchdowns and LaDainian Tomlinson to gain a season high 71 yards.
Matt Cassel threw three interceptions, the offense barely gained 200 yards and they even gave up a blocked punt for a the game's final touchdown. Cassel finished with a 25.3 passer rating, his lowest mark as a starter.
It was their fourth straight loss to the Chargers and their tenth straight loss at home. No doubt many of the fans looking at those Dallas Texans uniforms were ready to see this team head back where they originated from for the rest for the rest of the season.
The Ugly:
Not too long after those rain-soaked fans trudged back to their homes after the humiliating defeat, they turned on their computers to find out that Larry Johnson, the back who is about to become the franchise's all-time leading rusher, had took a swipe at their head coach for all the world wide web to see.
Johnson, who needs just 75 yards to break the team's career rushing mark, posted a few insults directed at his coach on his Twitter account.
"My father got more creditentials than most of these pro coaches."
"My father played for the coach from "rememeber the titans". Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn."
If that wasn't bad enough, it was later found out that Johnson used a gay slur twice, once on Twitter and another time to reporters Monday in the lockerroom. The next day Johnson was told to stay away from the Chiefs facility for two weeks.
Johnson filed an appeal but he later settled on an agreement with the Chiefs to remain suspended for two weeks but only at the loss of one game check.
So it's nearly midway through the season for the Chiefs, a year when they celebrate their 50th anniversary, and nothing seems to be going right.
Most teams with a new coach realize that a little rebuilding comes with the territory, but an 1-6 start with a $60 million dollar quarterback is a bit too much to accept. Especially when the division rival Denver Broncos brought in a new coach and Kyle Orton and turned it into a 6-0 record.
This just isn't the kind of season to celebrate a "legacy" with. The Dallas Texans won the AFL Championship in their third and final year in Dallas. The 1966 Chiefs represented the league in the first ever Super Bowl. The 1969 Chiefs won Super Bowl IV.
Since then, Kansas City has won the AFC West just four times and managed only three playoff wins. Something tells me, Dallas is much happier with the Cowboys.
The bye week is no doubt a welcome time out for the team, who now has a chance to lick their wounds and recoup from a horrid seven weeks of football, it also gives their fans a chance to dry out and consider what they will do with the rest of their Sundays.
Many of the faithful have already checked out for the rest of the season, while others will tough it out no matter how low their esteem may fall. It's not a good time to be a Chiefs fans, the bad keeps piling up and now the ugly is keeping the skies dark over Arrowhead.
Maybe they will get lucky and the work stoppage many are expecting to come in 2011 will start early.
