The USS New York arrived home to New York today. According to reports, the huge battleship constructed of the steel of the World Trade Center tragedy has made it to New York.
According to UPI, "USS New York Cmdr. Curt Jones spoke as the amphibious assault vessel completed its journey to its namesake city from Norfolk, Va., in preparation for its official commissioning, The New York Times said.
The USS New York will be used to transport U.S troops to various locations around the world. It is a full capable vessel that is capable of a crew of 360 and able to carry 700 Marines.
The Battleship is has three primary mobility capabilities: Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) Landing Craft, Landing Craft Air Cushioned vehicle and the MV-22 Osprey which is a new type of aircraft that can land vertically and carry combat troops.
There was great excitement when the USS New York arrived today. They had a 21-gun salute near Ground Zero. The ship cost $1 Billion to create. The ship will stay docked in New York till November 11th. After that, the ship will go to Norfolk, Virginia for a year of crew training and exercises. (C) tPC
