While Matt Lauer squirmed and tried as best he might not to laugh, Colin Farrell pulled off a spot-on imitation of Tom Cruise on yesterday's "Today" show, telling Lauer he was being "glib" in an open mock of the Top Gun's temper tantrum last year.
Farrell, the darkly handsome Irishman who was on the show to promote his new movie "Miami Vice", visited both Lauer and the "Live with Regis and Kelly" show, co-starred with Cruise in another movie ("Minority Report") and so has a good handle on the action hero's quirks.
Tom Cruise's now famous interview with Lauer last year degenerated to a referendum on Scientology when they discussed medication taken for post-partum depression, during wich Cruise repeatedly referred to Lauer a "glib".
According to the Daily News, Farrell took advantage of the moment to it's fullest, joking telling Lauer, "Stop being glib, Matt! You're glib, Matt, you're glib, you're glib!" Moments later, as Lauer struggled not to lose it, Farrell demanded sternly: "Are you being glib again?"
The Daily News report adds, "...On "Regis and Kelly," Farrell rubbed it in. When the show came back from a commercial break, the Irish actor was caught glad-handing audience members and dashed back to his seat onstage. "Doin' my best Tom Cruise impersonation," he quipped."
You gotta hand it to the guy.. he has some serious non-scientology balls. Just don't be surprised if he turns up at a Scientology center one day as a guest of the Tomkat.
