Creepy Cicada sheds nymph exoskeleton in mesmerizing time-lapse footage [VIDEO]. People are going to be freaked out by this time-lapse video of a Cicada shedding its nymph exoskeleton to become an adult. But it is quite a sight.

It depicts a process by Australia's Northern Territory resident that lasts about an hour, compressing it into just 30 seconds.
Facebook user Mark Anderson of Alice Springs, Australia posted the mesmerizing video of the insect as it wiggles, cracks the shell down its backside and crawls out of its own skin before spreading transparent wings and taking flight.

Cicada's spend 13-17 years of their lives as underground nymphs before emerging.

This insect coming-of-age took place Jan. 16, Anderson said.
