Seahawks QB Russell Wilson: Nice Guy or Typical Classless Douche Nozzle Rich Athlete?
by MC

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has announced that he and his wife of two years, Ashton, are divorcing.

Wilson, who has known Ashton since high school, called it a "difficult decision." He began dating the 26-year-old while they were both going to North Carolina State.

"I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," Wilson said in the statement. "Clearly, decisions like these don't come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter."

Wilson led Seattle to its first Super Bowl title in February, when the Seahawks overwhelmed the Denver Broncos.

Nothing out of the ordinary there as people get married and divorced all the time. But what makes this situation different is that Wilson is about to have a boatload of money thrown his way. Oh, and, being a SB Winning QB sure helps his visibility not to mention opening the deep-end of the white-hawt lady pool.  But he could very well be the one wronged here. Ashton may have cheated on Russell. However, that seems ridiculous so for the sake of argument the assumption is being made that he is not.

The pair married in January 2012 after he finished his college career at Wisconsin and before he was drafted by the Seahawks. The couple had been visible at Seahawks events for his first two seasons in the league. So clearly she invested quite a bit.

I guess some would say... "It's better than cheating on her" and you are right. However, I'm not ready to pin a medal of honor on his chest.

The reason Wilson is about to have a crapload of money thrown his way is because he is still playing out his rookie contract that is considerably less than he will be making beginning next season.  He currently makes just over $600K.  Come next season he will sign a deal somewhere in the range of $80M-$110M with a signing bonus to the tune of $25M. He's not doing Ashton any favors. In fact, it might have been difficult but it doesn't make it any less douchey of a move.

What do you think? Should he be commended for having the class and respect to divorce his wife before entering into illicit trysts should he choose to do so?  Or is he "Weasel Wilson" for bailing on Ashton before he sees any of the real cash. I mean, she should stood by him before he was ever drafted. He was deemed to small to be a success in the NFL.
