WATCH! Larry Dixon wreck [VIDEO]; NHRA Top Fueler walks away from spectacular ride, Three-time NHRA champion Larry Dixon managed to walk away from a incredible airborne crash during qualifying in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday.

Dixon is lucky to be alive after his car broke apart at nearly 260 mph and went airborne Saturday at the Gatornationals.

Dixon's Top Fuel dragster bowed in the middle and broke during a third-round qualifying run at Auto-Plus Raceway.

Dixon remained in the cockpit as safety workers reached him. He was alert, awake and talking to safety personnel before they helped him out. He walked to a waiting ambulance under his own power and waved to the crowd.

It was unclear what caused the chassis to buckle at such high speed.

The 48-year-old Dixon drives for Bob Vandergriff Jr. He won the Top Fuel class in 2002, 2003, 2010 and has 62 career victories.
