NBA Player beaten by NYPD [VIDEO]; Thabo Sefolosha injury investigation, Atlanta Hawks star Thabo Sefolosha broke his fibula and damaged ligaments during his arrest last week following the stabbing of Chris Copeland, according to NBC New York.

The NYPD is investigating the arrest of Sefolosha, whose injuries appear to be caused by a severe blow from an NYPD officer's nightstick during his arrest last Wednesday night.

The arrest happened outside 10AK nightclub on West 17th Street. Sefolosha will miss the rest of the season for the Atlanta Hawks.

"I will simply say that I am in great pain, have experienced a significant injury and that the injury was caused by the police," Sefolosha told NBC New York. "I am extremely disappointed that I will not be able to join my teammates on the court during the playoffs and apologize to them for any distraction this incident has caused."

The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) has also launched an investigation into the police tactics during the arrest, according to ESPN.

"The players' union is concerned about the circumstances of Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic's arrest and is doing its own investigation of the situation," NBPA spokeswoman Tara Greco told ESPN. "The union was fully engaged in supporting all three players in court and in the precinct this week, and will continue to stay engaged as each situation evolves."

Sefolosha and Antic refused to move when cops tried to secure the crime scene, according to reports.

Sefolosha has been charged with obstructing governmental administration, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
