Royals Who Married Commoners [PHOTOS]. Love will make folks do crazy things -- like defy centuries of tradition. Prince William of Wales married the non-titled Catherine Elizabeth "Kate" Middleton on April 29, 2011.
Kate was born to Carole Elizabeth, a flight attendant, and Michael Francis Middleton, a flight dispatcher and later an a British Airways airline officer.
In 1987, Kate's parents founded Party Pieces, a very profitable mail order company that sells party supplies. Kate's parents were able to send her to St. Andrews University in Scotland. She met William met while studying there.
Gaze upon these royals who broke with custom and got hitched outside of their titled rank.
Some of these commoners (PHOTOS) went from rags to riches, but many, like Kate Middleton, already came from affluent families.
