Dan Aykroyd Tourettes Aspergers law enforcement obsession. Actor and comedian Dan Aykroyd suffered from Tourette and Asperger Syndrome when he was a child. He also has an obsession with law enforcement and keeps a police badge in his wallet at all times! 

In an NPR radio interview with Terry Gross in 2004, Aykroyd talked about his childhood struggle with neurological disorders Tourette and Asperger's Syndrome.

It was his parents (his father was a civil engineer, his mother a secretary) who started Aykroyd on the acting path by enrolling him at an improvisational class.

They didn't particularly want him to be an actor, they just thought it would help calm their hyperactive son - he had been expelled from two schools for acting up and a psychiatrist had diagnosed Tourettes and mild Asperger's syndrome, because Aykroyd had a few tics and had shown signs of obsessive compulsive disorder.
