Indonesian Bubble Skin Man Wants A Cure For His Kids
by Tashi Singh

An Indonesian man who has been suffering from a disease that makes his skin look like it is full of bubbles has finally been diagnosed.

Chandra Wisnu, 57, was examined by a US-based dermatologist from Maryland, Anthony Gaspari, who diagnosed Wisnu as suffering from Neurofibromatosis.

According to the doctor, Wisnu is suffering from an extreme case of Neurofibromatosis type I (NF-1), a tumor disorder that is caused by a gene malfunction and causes non-cancerous lumps to appear all over the body.

NF-1 was suspected to be the same disease the famed "Elephant Man" Joseph Merrick is suspected to have suffered from; however, others say he was a victim of Proteus Syndrome. Read more here

NF-1 tumors often cause bumps under the skin, some massive in size, along with colored spots, skeletal problems, pressure on spinal nerve roots, and other neurological problems.

The disease is genetic and affects up to one in 2,500 people. Although it has already been identified, there is still no existing cure. But Gaspari said there are treatments that can improve the quality of Wisnu's life.

Wisnu himself is anxious for relief for another reason: his two adult children are beginning to form the same tumors.

His story is to air on TLC tonight, June 20.
