McDowell told the police that at a McDonald's in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, two men approached her in the parking lot around 10 p.m. The men showed her a working iPad, and then went on to say they bought several of them in bulk at a very cheap price. They offered to sell her one.
The men asked for $300. She only had $180 on her. However, the men agreed to sell it at that price. McDowell was given a FedEx box with the iPad in it. When she got home to open it, she found a piece of wood painted black with an Apple logo on it. Needless to say, she's been duped.
Police are now looking for the two men who are driving a white Chevy Impala with untinted windows and no rims. Anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers at 58-CRIME. These men seem like they are going to continue selling these fake iPads.
In Dallas, wooden iPads and Macbooks have been being sold for $300 or for $500. These men have been hitting up convenience stores and shopping center parking lots in Grand Prairie especially.
To avoid being a victim, always open the box up first and examine the product fully. (c) tPC
